Christmas time is rapidly approaching! Tis’ the season to start saving money for Christmas shopping! Oh, the bows and glittery wrapping paper. The scotch tape, scissors, and ribbons. The boxes and bags, the tree and the tags…Doesn’t it seem like you always wish you could have bought more?
The money is so hard to come by and goes so quickly, especially during the holidays. Have you ever wondered how you could have more money to spend next Christmas season? Have you ever wished you could make the money you do have go farther? You can do both! Here’s how…First let’s focus on having more money to spend. Well, I think most of us save up money specifically for Christmas shopping. Saving is great. That’s really the best way. However, if you don’t save enough for long enough the amount you have in the end may be disappointing. The best way to save for Christmas is to save all year long. The best amount to save is based on how much you’ll need to have to spend. If you want to save one thousand dollars for next Christmas you’ll want to divide that by fifty two weeks and save that amount each week. Take a look…$1000 divided by 52 weeks in one year = about $20.00 per week saved for Christmas. You can save money in a cookie jar or piggy bank. In a fire safe or in a secret spot. You can earn interest saving your money in a savings account. That’s always good. Money really is safest in the bank anyway!
The trick to saving is to save a specific amount based on the total amount you want to save for the year, each week. Saving every week faithfully is easiest and most beneficial because the total amount can be quite large but the amount saved per week will not ruin you financially!Once you’ve spent all year long saving that money for Christmas you really want to get as much as you can for everyone with it! We all want our money to stretch farther than it can go. Unfortunately it can’t. However, here are a couple ideas that can make your money go much farther…
Make a list. Shoppers tend to spend less when they make and use a shopping list. That’s a fact whether the shopper is grocery shopping or Christmas shopping. When you go into the store it’s important to not get sidetracked by all the flashing lights and sale signs. Your list is a weapon against all of those things in your sight that the store wants you to spend your money on. Stick to your list faithfully and get only what you had planned to get. This saves you money by fulfilling your shopping needs, and not wants. People without a list tend to wander through stores. They are not sure exactly what they need so they buy this or that. That can be costly and wasteful.
Determine who gets what and go to the store and get only those items to save money!Watch what stores you shop at. Why go to a high class clothing store to get two outfits for two hundred dollars when you can go to your nearest department store and get two outfits for everyone in the family for two hundred dollars? It just doesn’t make sense to me.
Don’t go to the pricey stores to shop if you want your money to stretch. If you get lesser cost items you can get many, many more items than you would be able to choosing the expensive things.
Remember, it’s not what you buy for who that makes Christmas special. It’s not about who gets what. It’s about togetherness, family, friendship and harmony. It’s about peace, love, and the spirit of giving…
