Our senior citizens and the tax rebate

logo

I guess the big question is “do seniors qualify for the rebate too?” After searching the web, the anwer seems to be no. One representative went as far as to say “workers who did not pay taxes should not get a rebate”. He believes you should have contributed to taxes to get something back. Sadly, it looks like low-income seniors will not qualify for the rebate.

UPDATE: As of 2/18/08 this information has changed

I agree that lower income families w/children should get the rebate first. But just who is using up all the social security? I worked for 39 years and had huge sums taken out of my pay check for SS. I feel like I’m using up THAT amount.

  4. Any american that has worked & payed into social security ,that being about half of your check for about 50 years deserves to get something back at age 65 , & sadly enough most americans that have payed all their life while trying to support their fomilies also, die ,like my mother ,father & my husbands father – so whose doing the using? It will be low income people like Janet reaping the benefits of all of her fellow americans that didn’t live long enough to collect a dime ,& my family wasn’t low income they paid in probably more than Janet’s whole weekly check ,so who will truly be the user when your old enough to collect ? = JANET*
