When thinking of ways to save money the obvious come to mind. Spend less to save more. Anywhere you look for tips you find; turn off lights when leaving a room, stock up on food when it is on sale, have a programmable thermostat so you are not heating the house when you asleep or at work and changing your bulbs to florescent light bulbs.
I use all of these tips but one I have forgotten about is water. So I started researching and I could not believe what I found. A bath and the washing machine use 40 gallons of water. A 5 minutes shower uses 10 gallons. A water hose or sprinkler uses 140 gallons!! Last summer I watered the grass at least 4 to 5 times a week. I know water should be a little higher on the list for saving money, I just never really thought about it.
Here are some of the tips I found:
Do not leave the tap running, ever!
Use a bowl to wash vegetables
Store drinking water in a jug in the refrigerator instead of waiting for the tap to get cold
Instead of buying bottled water refrigerate tap
Only use your washer for a full load of clothes
Take a quick shower instead of a bath
Get a barrel to collect rain water to use on your garden
Avoid using sprinklers, a watering can uses much less water
Wash your car less often
When you do wash your car, do it at home
While waiting for water to get hot, use the cold water on your plants or refrigerate
Next time you buy appliances buy energy efficient
Fix leaky faucets- a leaky faucet can waste as much as 2,700 gallons of water a year!
I am so guilty when it comes to bottled water, I buy it every week sometimes twice!

I guess I’m lucky. We don’t have water meters here — it’s part of yearly taxes.

I am pretty much shameless when it comes to my water usage. My showers don’t end until the water runs out.
