A lot of people think in order to save money you need to have “extra money”. I was one of those people. Having a budget will make things a whole lot easier when trying to save money. At least then you will have some type of plan. It is also good to have a goal. It will motivate you to know you are saving for something, not just saving for no exact purpose.
Another part of saving money is to control your spending. The first step to be taken should be using cash and only cash. Do not use your credit cards at all. I had to put mine in the freezer!! When you are using cash, it tends to have more of an impact when you can immediately see how all the “little” purchases can really add up. Using all cash has honestly helped me to think twice before I make a purchase. I can definitely tell I am doing good because my daughters have told me they miss the old mommy. The one who will almost always buy something just because it is on sale. I am hoping that by changing my thoughts on spending money, it will also have a positive effect on my children.
Another good tip for saving money is to not buy the most expensive brand when buying toiletries. I love using Suave products. My family uses their shampoo, conditioner, body wash and deodorant. I honestly can not tell the difference between the more expensive name brands and Suave. It also doesn’t hurt that they have a money back guarantee. I also get a lot of our toiletries at the dollar store. I buy toothpaste, dental floss, toothbrushes, soap and bubble bath from there.
