I am learning that becoming frugal is not just about being cheap. It means making better money decisions as a whole. It definitely does not mean buying products made of poor quality. You will end up spending more in the long run because you will have to replace articles of clothing more often. If you or your kids are extremely hard on clothes, it is much wiser to pay a little extra for clothes that are better quality. So instead of buying three pairs of shoes for $40, buy the one pair that costs $75. I have to do this for my son because he is really tough on shoes. My daughters like to match shoes with different outfits so their shoes do get as much wear and it is logical to buy the cheaper shoes.
Another good tip is to buy a season ahead. When winter ends, I try to estimate my children’s sizes so that I can buy boots and coats at a discounted price. This also works good with summer clothes. Walmart is one of my favorite store to shop for seasonal clothes. I have gotten pants and shirts as low as $1.00!!! With my kids I try to only buy clothes for them that are on sale.
It is also a good idea to buy clothes that are easy to coordinate. You can get so much more wear out of clothes that you are able to mix and match. This not only works for women, it works with men too.
