Her first high school dance

logo

So last night was the night. Jazz had her first high school dance. I think I was more nervous then she was. It wasn’t really fancy but she went out and bought a new few things. I don’t think my hubby liked it at all. She may be 14 but I think he will always see her as his little girl. He doesn’t want her to date until she is at least 50!! I would not say it was a date because he dropped her off at the dance. But a friend did buy her a ticket.
I remember my first dance. I dressed up a little. A cute skirt and sweater. My grandfather dropped me off. I went with a few of my friends who were girls and I was too shy to dance. I danced one time and it was with my friend, James. He was gay so I felt no pressure. He taught me how to slow dance that night and I do not think I will ever forget it. I remember all the popular kids out on the floor doing the current dances. It was fun to watch them. Especially a boy I had a crush on. His name was Sammy and he had a Jheri curl.

It looked just liked Micheal Jackson’s. (Hey it was the 80′s, I even had a curl!!) He was so cute and such a great dancer! I had a crush on him for most of high school and he never even knew it.
Anyways, back to Jasmine’s first dance. When she got home she told me all the details. She even had her first slow dance. My heart actually jumped for her. She had a really good time and I could not be happier. As a mother I look forward to my daughters going to dances and having crushes. I think that is an innocent part of growing up. I can not wait til they are ready for prom and all that. I never did that stuff so I guess I will live through them. Now I just have to dear hubby on board :)

  1. Aww, that is so sweet. I remember my first dance. I must have been 8 or 9. It was at the local community center. Fun times. The first real one was in junior high. That was loads of fun.

How nice that your daughter got to go to a dance. I’ll bet she was nervous. Oh the days of growing up! Hugs for you the mom and hugs for your hubby too.
