I was visiting over at the Parent Bloggers Network and saw an interesting sweepstakes about pets. I thought it would be fun to enter.
I never was big on pets and it never crossed my mind that my kids may want one. My husband likes pets so about 7 years ago we started with a few fish. My kids really enjoyed it and I must admit it was calming to watch. We added some frogs to the mix and that is when it all started. My son started to claim the frogs as his and his alone so Nannah wanted a pet of her own. She asked my dad to get her a pet for her birthday and he got her a hamster. It wasn’t bad at first. Nannah named her Mimi and she was brown and white. We got her one of those kits where she could run all around. We even bought one of those balls to put her in.

The kids had fun with Mimi at first but then they got bored with her. Slowly but surely the chore of keeping her cage clean became my hubby’s job. We had Mimi for a little over a year before giving her to another family member. The stench of her cage was just too much to handle.
After Mimi was gone the kids decided they wanted to another pet. A puppy. I wasn’t too sure about that. I mean who would walk him and take care of him? I definitely did not want that job. Well, one day a friend of hubby’s had a puppy that his wife did not want so he came to live with us. Of course all the kids fell in love with him. They named him Scottie. I did not want to become attached because I just knew the kids would get bored with him. Well I was wrong. It is about three years later and he is part of the family. I buy for him like he is one of the kids. As a matter of fact I just bought him the cutest t-shirt last week! It says rock star. He is spoiled and afraid of the dark and I love him to pieces. Now my kids want to get him a friend. I am not sure about that but I think a good alternative will be the iDogs from Club BK. At least then I will not have to nag about who is going to pooper scoop or give the dog a bath!
