Isn't it fun being the mom of young girls?

I try to let my girls express themselves in any non-permanent way that they would like. My hope is that this will keep them from wanting facial piercings that they might regret later in life. My small town was very shocked when I let my 13 yr old have a couple of purple stripes in her hair. Many people still stare and think that she must be a bad kid. She is a straight A student and a wonderful child so her hair can be any color she wants. To me hair is hair and it can grow back. It is much better than another child in school that just pierced her own nose and it got infected. I can not make any claims to be perfect. I have a hole at the top of my left ear and HAD my belly button pierced. I say had because I stopped wearing it years ago. I also have 5 tattoos but facial piercings worry me. I feel like facial piercings would be a huge regret when people get older. Maybe it will all be different in the future though. When this generation gets old they may all have wrinkly old saggy faces with holes in them and it will be normal. :)

Oh, I feel for my mother. My sister (the oldest) pierced and tattooed EVERYTHING. Me? I just got my ears pierced when I was 28. The only other thing I did was my belly in a random act of defiance when I was 18. I took that out when I got pregnant at 27. Good luck!

For me, I regretted getting them pierced just once. Earrings just never suited me.

But for my daughters, they won't be getting them done until they are at least 13, when they are mature enough to make the choice. After 18, they are free to add as many holes in their bodies they want.

I did get my belly button done at 16 though, which took a lot of convincing with my parents. It was just tradition for every girl on the pom squad to do it, so they let me go ahead with it. Big Mistake! Do you know how horrible a belly piercing looks after pregnancy? yikes.
