For some reason my kids’ had their science fair pretty late this year. School is almost over. Jazz has her last day tomorrow, Nannah’s is Friday since she graduates on Monday and the two younger ones last day is June 16th. I can not say I did not know about the science projects and that is why I waited until the last minute. Time just flew by a lot faster than I thought it would. Plus TJ and Nannah already had an idea of what they wanted to do. This would be Kayla’s first time participating in the science fair. She had a lot of ideas to say the least and she kept changing her mind. So the day before the project was due I searched online for something easy for a first grader to do. I came across an article on suite 101. They actually had a few suggestions but we decided on the cornstarch suspension one. It was so easy to do. All we needed was cornstarch and water. We used a little more than a cup of cornstarch with 1/2 cup of water. Kayla mixed it together until it looked like pancake batter. It was a little messy but Kayla had a really good time playing with it. Plus it cleaned up with just water. All of my kids thought it was so cool that if you kept your hands moving the mixture turned into a solid. The moment you stopped moving it went back to being a liquid.

Kayla drew her project out on a posterboard and mixed the cornstarch and water in front of her class. She did a great job and she got an “A”!!

I made a short video but I will upload it later.
