One of the favorite things my kids love to say is “Ma, can I have a snack”? And they ask me this about a million times a day. Especially when they are bored. So it got me to thinking, what is a snack? To me it is something small that is not meant to get you full. I am thinking along the lines of a bowl of grapes, a few chocolate chip cookies, some chips or crackers even a bowl of cereal. My kids seem to think a snack is meant to get them full so it almost needs to be a meal. They also think they need a snack every 10 minutes. My aunt is one of those people who says “if they are hungry let them eat”. She acts like I am starving them if I say no because they have had too many snacks. I understand where she is coming from but most of the time they are not really hungry. They just need something to do. At least my kids. Plus I want to teach them that you do not eat just because you are bored. Now I am not saying I have learned this completely myself but I do want to start early in teaching them better eating habits.
