I am always to trying to find ways to get my kids to eat better. I think I am pretty much on the right track. Since they were little I made sure some of their first foods were vegetables and fruit so they are big fans of both. As they get older it can get a little harder sometimes.
This is why I was pretty interested when I heard about Warner Bros. and Safeway becoming partners so they could offer a “better for you” eating solution for kids. I did not even know Safeway had an Eating Right line for adults as well. I plan on checking it out because I could little help for me as well.
The Eating Right KidsLine has more than 60 items. They cover everything from meals that you can take on the go, snacks, dairy, beverages, breakfast foods, produce and frozen entrees. The entire line is available at more than 1700 Safeway locations all over the US and Canada.
We were sent an Eating Right Kids lunch bag that had some pasta, juice and a chewy bar inside. My kids took to it right away. I was happy with the portion sizes and the kids were happy with the taste. I was kind of surprised because the pasta was whole grain, and they do not eat a lot of whole grain pasta. I honestly did not expect them to like it. It turned out there was not enough! I would definitely rather have something from this line to offer the kids when it comes to after school snacks rather than junk food. I just wish there were closer to us. The closest one is 55 miles away.
Before now, I have never been to the Safeway site before. They have a recipe and meal section that has some great 15 minute suggestions. There is even video that shows you stuff like how to make guacamole or ice cream treats. The Good to Know section is a great way to find out more about the nutritional benefits of the food you eat.
For after school snacks the Eating Right Kids Line offers food like:
- Watermelon Applesauce. The containers are single servings so they can go anywhere. They are made with no high-fructose corn syrup and offer 100% of the daily value of vitamin C
- Chewy Bars. Choices include mixed fruit and sour strawberry. 6 grams of whole grains per serving
- Fat Free Pudding. Comes in chocolate, tapioca and vanilla. Provides 10% of the daily value of calcium
- Fruit Cups. Naturally flavored extra light syrup, 100% of daily value of vitamin C. 15% of daily value of vitamin A and 10% of the daily value of calcium
- Fruits & Vegetables Snack Packs. Apples with peanut butter, grapes with cheese bites, apples with cinnamon dip and celery with butter. Easy to just grab and go!
