Teacher cuts off a child’s braid as punishment

logo

I live in Milwaukee, and  all of my children attend Milwaukee Public Schools. When I heard the story about a teacher cutting the braids off of a little girl, it pissed me off!!! Layma has been growing her braids since she was little. She has those pretty little beads on the end. I put them in my daughter’s hair. She is the same age as Layma, 7 years old. When you move your head they kind of clack together. Apparently this teacher was annoyed by the sound and asked Layma to stop it. Later in the day when Layma played with her hair, not on purpose, it upset the teacher. The teacher called this baby to the front of the class and cut one of her braids!!!! The teacher threw Layma’s braid in the trash and asked “her so what you gonna tell your momma now?”.  Layma just went to her desk and cried.

At the most the teacher may be fined! Can you believe that?  The school district has moved Layma to a different class away from her friends like she did something wrong!!

This is beyond unacceptable!!! I send my kids to school not to be harmed, humilated or hurt in anyway. This teacher had no right to touch this child’s hair.

My heart goes out to Layma because I feel she did not have to go through this. I feel so bad for her. I do not even know what I would do if someone cut Kayla’s hair. Just thinking about it burns me up. She is my child. No one should be touching her or her hair.

I would love to know what you guys think. You can read more about the story here  and see the video.

  1. Girl. No. What is wrong with people putting their hands on other people’s kids?!

  2. Oh.Heck.NAW! Honey… at most she can be fined? Not if it were my kid. At most I WOULD BE FINED because I would find it very difficult not to put my hands on this teacher. Sorry – I may be wrong but I don’t really see rationally when it comes to someone mutilating my child. Yes, mutilating. Cutting something on a child’s body is mutilation. I would go ape freaking nuts in that school. A FINE?! No sweetheart… she wouldn’t have to pay a cent. I would take every penny of it out on her behind. CUT MY CHILD’S HAIR?!?!?!

*this is me drawing the line*

If I don’t give you PERMISSION, don’t TOUCH my child. Period. I send my kids to school to learn. Teaching does not require you touch my kid AT ALL. Stay in your place and we won’t have any issues. Period.

  3. WHAT??

    Girl, please….

This momma would have been up there cutting off some teacher’s hair.

    Cutting her hair??

    That is beyond ridiculous.

I would be LIVID! She could sent her to the office and asked for the mother to come down and remove the beads!

That’s insane! That teacher should be written up and put on leave for touching a child. She had absolutely no right to cut her hair. If she had a problem, she should have contacted the parent and worked out a solution. She (the teacher) needs therapy! That poor little girl.

That is crazy! I cannot believe it. And if she was my child there would be repercussions. Horrible, horrible repercussions!

That teacher needs to be fired. There is something wrong here. We need to start a letter writing campaign.

I would think that would be a civil suit ,that to me is a form of attacking someone,My daughter had waist length hair when she was little an IF that teacher had cut her hair,I would personlly mop the floor with that woman!NO one has the right to lay hands in that way with a child, that has to be more illegal than what we know,I would consult a lawyer!

That is seriously wrong. Sounds like the student is being punished more than the teacher is however.

i dont usually reply to posts, but this one flat out straight pissed me off, no way in hell would i let that b#$(h get away with this! first i would of went to school and if they didnt fire her ass , like they should of, i would of kicked the teachers ass, and i dont care if it is wrong to fight and we shouldnt do it. this woman would learn a lesson the hard ass way, and what is with that school?? moving that girl like she did wrong? after suffering thru having her hair chopped off! what about child abuse? this is it to me, shame on that school for doing NOTHING

I’m a pretty calm, non-violent type pf person, but if that was my child, I’d kick that teacher’s butt not once but at the very least twice. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, schools nowadays are the worst place you can send your child. If there’s not another kid putting them down or hurting them there’s a teacher doing it. I’ll never understand it. Hopefully the parents of this munchkin have explained to her that she’s not the bad one and they’ll pursue this as far as possible. I’d sue the idiot for mental stress or something. At least keep her in court and her name in the papers to embarass the hell out of her and make sure future parents are aware of exactly who is teaching their child’s class.

I can’t believe this story is real. What an incredible violation against this poor little girl. I imagine she’ll be petrified of teachers for the rest of her life. Something is seriously wrong with that woman. They should let Layma give HER a haircut! LOL

Seriously, she needs to be fired right quick. That’s not OK, at all, what is she going to do? Shave a boy’s head next?!
