Yeah, I’m a homemaker

logo

profileJazz is a sophomore in high school and they were discussing life recently in class. As soon as she came home she wanted to talk to me about it. The teacher talked about family life and how families today are so different from those of the 1950′s. According to this teacher back then, there were nothing but two parent households. Husbands worked and women stayed home to be housewives. It is not like that today. After more discussion it turned out Jazz was the only one is her class that had  married parents and a mom who did not work. She wondered if I would be insulted to be considered a housewife. To be honest, I am a not. I have no problems with being a housewife/homemaker. It is a part of who I am. I did think it was interesting though that is this one class our family was considered “not the norm”. I know a lot of two parent households, married and not. I know quite a few homemakers as well who love that they are able to stay at home. Luckily Jazz knows this.

We made the choice for me to become a full time homemaker about 7 years ago. It was a decision I was not sure about for years. I would work, then I missed being home. I would be home and missed working. When Kayla was a few months old, it was better for me mentally to just stay at home. I have been blessed to have a great husband who supported me and I don’t regret making it. Now I am not saying that there not times when I feel like I should be out working to contribute more to our family financially. While I am writing this I asked him, do you want me to work. He said no. He likes me being home all the time. And deep down I think the kids like knowing I am here too, even though they may deny right now, lol.

A homemaker is not all I am though. I have a degree in Medical Office Administration. I love working in customer service. When the time is right I will be out working again. Shoot I am hoping to go back to school when it is possible. I am also a :

  • friend
  • cousin
  • wife
  • blogger
  • daughter
  • sister in law
  • auntie
  • mom
  • daughter in law

So please don’t ask me “Why are you not working when all your kids are all in school?” or “You are home all day and you didn’t cook?”  I am not trying to be a 50′s housewife.

I am a homemaker, my kind. The not so perfect kind that.  It doesn’t matter as long as it works for us :)

This topic comes at the right time. After having each one of my kids, I stayed home for about a year. When at home I would get bored. When at work I’d get frustrated. By next month I’ll be home again. This time I refuse to get bored. I’ve got work to do. I’m glad its working for you and your family

That’s RIGHT! Whatever works for YOUR family is all that matters. People will always try to have something to say. Shut them down with….it works for us. The End :)
