It has been 24 days since the last time I have eaten out. Eating out has been one of my go to methods to get dinner on the table when I can’t think of anything to cook, get behind in running errands or am just plain too tired to cook. This has done nothing for my goal of saving money. Eating out is expensive and does not produce leftovers which we like to use in our house! For me I can not even do little lunches out here and there because it adds up. Before I know it we are eating out more than eating in and that money could have went to groceries!
Now this is not easy for me or the kids. So I have been approaching it from an entirely different way than I used to. One night we wanted subs for dinner. When you multiply that times six and throw in some sides, the money just starts adding up. So this is what we did instead. We went to the store and grabbed:
There is nothing like making a sub at home. You can control exactly how much meat, cheese and toppings you want on it. Plus you don’t have to pay extra for additional toppings. We like to get a couple of different meats: ham, bacon, turkey, pastrami, chicken and roast beef. American, Swiss and Cheddar is what we have for cheese. The kids like mayo, I prefer to have Miracle Whip
But our can-not-do-without, must-have is Beano’s submarine dressing. We have been using it for years. It has the oil, vinegar and spices all mixed up for you. My family can not have a sub without it!! You can find it by the deli department or in the condiments aisle.
Not only did we save money, but we were able to make subs more than once! Kayla is a little sandwich making expert! It looks like you went to a sub shop instead of making it at home. We all make ours differently. My husband likes to toast his, I have to have bacon on mine, TJ’s has to be warmed up and Nannah loves different cheeses.
Do you make subs at home? What do you put on yours?

I LOVE Beano’s submarine dressing! When we can’t find it we use Newman’s Olive Oil & Vinegar Dressing. I don’t really have a meat or cheese preference… pastrami and cheddar are really good. I like onions, banana peppers, cucumbers, and lettuce on top!
I always have coupons for Newman’s. I think I will grab some and check it out. It would be nice to have a back up.

Oh yummy, I have been having a hankering for a sub sandwich. We are on a tight budget over here so that is out of the question.
I will look for the beanos on my next shopping trip would love that sub taste, but at home!
It is really good and it is definitely cheaper than going out. Let me know what you think of it.

Eating out is an issue for us too, our local pizza place knows us by name and we have a “the usual” order! Ick it makes my stomach sink just thinking about it.
24 Days is great! Good for you! I should try it this month.
We had one place that knew our voices. Definitely not a good thing! Let me know if you do give it a try
I’d never heard of Beano’s Sub Sauce!
