I am a pretty happy person, & actually I have been accused of being too happy. I, however, haven’t always been this way. But after a number of tragic events I decided to look at things no matter what the situation as a learning opportunity. Eventually this led to me being happy most days and about most things. Don’t get me wrong, no one can be happy everyday but let me explain to you…The Thing That Made Me Smile Today….
If you are anything like me you have a little bit of road rage, not the flip someone off type of rage, but the yell aimlessly at the person like they can hear you type of rage. Well on my road (pun intended) to self discovery and blissful happiness I decided not to rage at bad drivers. I decided to just concede to rush hour traffic and turn the music up!
Well today I had Marsha Ambrosius’ new album ( Late Nights & Early Mornings) blasting through my speakers. Her album makes me smile and smile out loud! Her sweet soulfully raspy voice takes me to a good place. A place of my youth, before I was tainted by bad experiences and doubt. Even her sad songs make me happy. I can’t help but remember the lovers of my past and I smile. I smile at my innocence, I smile at my passion, I smile knowing that, that girl still lives inside of me.
Her album is the rarity that can be played from start to finish. Her songs flow one after the other drawing me more into my own soul. Finally a collage of songs that mean something! I am blown away by lyrics like “had to lose myself so I can love you better”. Really? Are you serious? How can you sing this and know that I’m connecting with your words, with your sound, with your message, so deeply and so intensely?
My favorite song on this much needed album is “Your Hands”. It’s a tale of how a man’s hands go so far beyond just his touch. She takes me on a harmoniously emotional journey with a voice so sensual that I would follow this man anywhere! Through this song I learn how a man’s hands could lead me to a greater place, a higher self, could mend my broken heart and change my tainted perception.
This song makes me smile!
This album makes me happy!

Totally agree that life is too short – we need to take every opportunity to learn from our experiences – both the good and the bad. If we have a soundtrack that reflects that, even better!
