I have lived in Wisconsin all my life and love strawberries but this was my first year checking out the Strawberry Festival. It has been going on for 26 years in Cedarburg, WI. It turned out not to be that far from my home so on June 27th my family decided to go and check it out. It wasn’t just me, my husband and kids this time. My mother-in-law, niece, sister-in-law and cousins went too. It was nice to go together because we are all such an easy going group!
When it comes to parking I must say we are a family that always wants to save money. This means instead of paying for parking, we parked a few blocks away. All I can say is it was definitely a workout! When we finally reached the area where the festival was being held, all you could see was people. This was the last day of the festival and it was packed! Every direction I looked in was full of people, it was hard to move too. I think at least 2 strollers hit the back of my legs, lol.
I wasn’t sure what to expect but there were lots of booths and food there. My main reason for going was to the famous Strawberry Brat. I have heard about it for years and it was on the minds of both my mother-in-law and I. The strawberry flavored bratwurst is only offered once a year so this was our chance. Somehow I managed to pass the stand that was grilling these brats a few time. I was caught up in the flow of traffic and taking pictures. Eventually we were able to grab ourselves one.
A strawberry brat was $5 and I could not wait to try it. Once it was in my hand I could definitely smell the strawberry aroma, more than the bratwurst. It was big and looked delicious.
I tore off a piece and have to say I was disappointed. The mixture of strawberries and bratwursts end up being a really odd flavor. It was not huge chunks of strawberries or anything but it took away from the brat. My mother-in-law agrees with me. It had a not so pleasant after taste too. I did not eat anymore than the one piece. I felt like something was missing, maybe a little cole slaw. Now my kids liked it and actually wanted more. I am glad I the chance to try it but it not one of things “I have to have” each year.
As I said before there were lots of booths at the Strawberry Festival, I snapped some pictures of a few things that caught my eye.
Besides the Strawberry Brats, we tried a few more things at the festival.

Freshly popped Kettle Korn

Strawberry Shortcake

Dessert from Delicately Delicious.
My family wanted me to share with y’all just how good these treats were. I am lucky I was able to get any pictures! Everyone was sharing with one another and they could not stop talking about how delicious the cakes were. I did not try any but I am planning a trip to the Delicately Delicious shop myself, you know for some “me time”.

Sounds like a strawberry filled day. I thought the brat would be odd but I try to not make food judgments.
