Saturday Sharing

Saturday SharingI wanted a place to share topics that catch my eye in a somewhat organized manner, lol so I welcome you to this week’s edition of Saturday Sharing.

Right along side bacon, one of my favorite things to eat or drink is Strawberry Lemonade. Some people consider it a “Summer” only type of beverage, but I like to drink it year round. Whenever we go out to eat and it is on the menu, my husband knows I just have to have one.  It never occurred to me to try to make it at home until I stumbled across a recipe over at Heather’s Dish. It is called the Ultimate Strawberry Lemonade. It only has four ingredients: water, strawberries, lemons and sugar.

I have a question. Say you are in the baking mood and decide to whip up some delicious treat. In the middle of preparing this treat you realize that the recipe calls for softened butter. What do you do? I have always put the butter in the microwave and tried to catch it before it melts completely. That does not always work. I know it is not softened but I honestly did not know of a way to do it differently. Baby Good Buys has a tip that uses a rolling pin that everyone should know! I am telling everyone about this because this is such a good idea. I am proud to say I now use softened butter when it is need and not melted butter!

One of my favorite quick and easy ways to make cake is add soda. These are usually called “Soda Cake” and are made with a can of cola. We like to make Root Beer Cake and serve it with ice cream. All you need is a box of cake mix and a can or glass bottle of root beer. It doesn’t matter which brand, just go with your favorite.  Put the cake mix in a bowl and add the soda. Mix it together using a mixer and pour it into a pan. That’s it. I can’t not even explain to you just how moist and flavorful the cake is. It never lasts long in our house!

Make and Takes

Over at Make and Takes, I found a recipe for Root Beer cookies. It is funny that I came across this because a few weeks ago I saw some root beer extract in the store and took a mental note of it. I had no idea how you would use it with cooking. With a little tweaks to the recipe you can use it to make all sorts of different cookies. I have not tried to make them yet, but I can just taste the root beer thinking about them.

Oh thanks so much for sharing all of these awesome tidbits! I will say that the butter softening one was my favorite. I am a butter snob and exclusively use real butter for everyday stuff and not just baking :)

I hate when recipes call for softened butter! No way I am organized enough to read the recipe hours before hand and get some out soften. I will have to try the rolling pin trick.

I’m usually pretty good about sitting the butter out plenty of time ahead to soften, but have used the microwave, too. Never thought about a rolling pin.
