I wanted a place to share topics that catch my eye in a somewhat organized manner, lol so I welcome you to this week’s edition of Saturday Sharing.
Everytime I make plans to go get groceries, we do a refrigerator check. I am really funny when it come to whether or not food is still good. In my opinion I would rather throw it away than take a chance on getting sick. My husband has his own calender he uses and usually says most of the food I want to toss is still good. After it is on my toss list, I will not touch it. I found out there is a site you can use to help figure out the shelf life of foods and how to store them. It is called Still Tasty.
I gave it a try and searched cooked white rice. According to Still Tasty, it can be stored in the refrigerator for 4-6 days. In the freezer it can be stored for 6 months. There are even storage tips: refrigerate within two hours of cooking and freeze or refrigerate in air tight containers. This is a great resource to have, there is also an app for it, but it costs $1.99.
Cheez its always make a good snack. Pretty much everyone is my family likes to eat them. I stumbled across a recipe over at DishTell.com for homemade cheez-it crackers. One look at the pictures and I want to make some of these. They look delicious!

We have a 3-4 day rule, depending on the food. Home cooked leftovers generally get tossed after 4 days, if they are around that long. Take out or restaurant leftovers have a 3 day limit. Pre-packaged foods I will go by the date on the package but still do regular checks for mold, separation, and stink…it’s always better to be safe then sorry.
