5 Tips to Stay Mentally Healthy

The ability to enjoy mental health translates into the ability to feel complete each and every day. With the rise of mental illnesses and education on such topics, it’s no wonder more people are trying to find ways to remain mentally healthy. Even if you don’t suffer from a mental health illness, with the busyness our society pushes upon us, it’s helpful to find ways to stay healthy in your everyday life.

Here are just 5 tips to stay mentally healthy as a means to push you towards feeling whole again, regardless of what life tosses at you today.

  1. Do Something You Enjoy – take at least fifteen minutes every day to do something you enjoy. Whether it’s reading a book, taking a walk or a hobby that you are passionate about. When you do something you enjoy on a daily basis, you will find your happiness increases which boosts mental health.
  2. Eat Healthy Foods – while you don’t have to go all health nut and change your diet so dramatically you become miserable, you can opt in for healthier food options during meal time. Add a salad or some fruit to a meal to give yourself that extra mental boost. I love to drink smoothies with spinach and fruit. 
  3. Take a Break –  I feel like people don’t take enough time to rest these days. Everyone is always so busy and on the go. It is ok to just relax sometimes, even if it means doing nothing at all. You can not do for everyone else if you don’t take time to recharge. 
  4. Get a Good Night Sleep – start having a bedtime routine in place that includes heading to bed and waking up at the same time every day. This is vitally important as a means to have your brain in tip top shape each and every day. Studies have shown a good night sleep will naturally work to increase happiness. I know when I don’t get enough sleep I can’t think clearly and become pretty grumpy. 
  5. Show Love to Your Family – this is last but certainly not least in the list of 5 tips to stay mentally healthy. There’s something about affection to and from our loved ones that just helps boost our spirits with little effort. Take time each day to show appreciation and affection to those you love dearly.

Being aware of your mental health is important, there are so many ways you can boost your mind without making drastic changes. Consider starting a journal to document your feelings as you work through using some of these tips I shared today. That is a great way to see what works for you.
