From the producers that brought audiences Shaun the Sheep Movie, Paddington and A Turtle’s Tale: Sammy’s Adventures, The Wild Life arrived on Blu-ray Combo Pack (plus DVD and Digital HD), DVD (plus Digital), and On Demand November 29 from nWave Pictures, Studiocanal and Summit Entertainment, a Lionsgate company.
From the over-exuberant parrot Mak to the snack-obsessed tapir Rosie, from the persnickety echidna Epi to the acrobatic pangolin Pango, from the ditzy goat Scrubby to the commonsensical kingfisher Kiki and the always-cool chameleon Carmello, things are larger-than-life on a tropical isle that is pure wild animal paradise. Then Robinson Crusoe, a marooned human, arrives in the midst of a furious storm, and their lives are forever changed by this bewildering new “creature.
I like that this movie kind of introduces a newer generations to Robinson Crusoe with a slight twist. The animals are a fun and quirky bunch. Tuesday is my favorite. The story is pretty family friendly. We enjoyed watching Robinson and the animals work together to defend themselves against the savage cats invading their home.
The Wild Life home entertainment special features include a behind-the-scenes featurette looking at the making of the film, an introduction to the characters, a Wild Life music video, and a short “Tips for Your Trip” featurette for viewers to successfully prepare for their next trip to the islands.
While I watch a lot of movies, I can’t say that I watch very many that use stop motion. But the uniqueness of Kubo and The Two Strings really caught my attention. I was happy when a copy was sent to me to review.
From acclaimed animation studio LAIKA comes an all-new epic adventure starring the voice talents of Academy Award® winners Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road) and Matthew McConaughey (Interstellar). Young Kubo (voiced by Art Parkinson of Game of Thrones) mesmerizes the people in his village with his magical gift for spinning fantastical tales. When he accidentally summons an evil spirit seeking vengeance, Kubo journeys on an action-packed quest to solve the mystery of his fallen samurai father, discover his own magical powers, and reunite his family.
Kubo and the Two Strings stars an all-star supporting voice cast including George Takei (Star Trek), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (The Man in the High Castle), and Academy Award® nominees Ralph Fiennes (Harry Potter), Brenda Vaccaro (Johnny Bravo), and Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo).
Kubo and the Two Strings is a very good movie. The animation is amazing! I loved all the details. I also enjoyed the creative storytelling. It is a little dark along the lines of Coraline so I wouldn’t recommend it for very young children. It may be a little too spooky for them. This movie will definitely spark some conversation because it covers some emotional topics liking losing a loved one. Kubo and the Two Strings stresses the importance of family and understanding one another.

In their fifth fully animated feature-film collaboration, Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures present The Secret Life of Pets, a comedy about the lives our pets lead when we leave for work or school. Max, voiced by Louis C.K., is a loyal terrier living a perfectly happy existence until his owner, Katie (Ellie Kemper) brings home Duke (Eric Stonestreet) a big, boisterous mutt she finds at the shelter. When Max and his unruly new “roommate” slip away from their dog-walker, they find themselves lost in the urban jungle of New York City with no pet products & supplies to survive. In an attempt to stay ahead of animal control and a rebel band of abandoned pets led by an unhinged bunny named Snowball (Kevin Hart), they put aside their differences to survive the epic journey back home.
With an all-star voice cast including Louis C.K. (TV’s Louie), Eric Stonestreet (TV’s Modern Family), Kevin Hart (Ride Along Series), Jenny Slate (Zootopia), Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Lake Bell (TV’s Children’s Hospital), Dana Carvey (Wayne’s World), Hannibal Buress (Neighbors series), Bobby Moynihan (TV’s “Saturday Night Live”), Steve Coogan (Minions) and Albert Brooks (Finding Dory).

It has been 13 years since Finding Nemo has stolen the hearts of Disney fans everywhere. I am happy to share that you can bring the sequel, Finding Dory home. The summer blockbuster hit, Disney Pixar’s FindingDory, swims home just in time for the holidays on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere (DMA) on Oct. 25 and on Blu-ray 3D™, Blu-ray, DVD and On-Demand on Nov. 15.
I was provided product for review purposes. Opinions are 100% my own.
When Dory, the forgetful blue tang (Ellen DeGeneres), suddenly remembers she has a family who may be looking for her, she, Marlin (Albert Brooks) and Nemo (Hayden Rolence) take off on a life-changing quest to find them … with help from Hank, a cantankerous octopus; Bailey, a beluga whale who’s convinced his biological sonar skills are on the fritz; and Destiny, a nearsighted whale shark.
My kids were just as excited as I was when I found out about Finding Dory. We saw it at the movie theaters and there were more adults than kids! The movie is very funny and we fell in love with Dory all over again. The colors in the movie are absolutely beautiful and I really enjoyed the message of friendship throughout the movie. Like during most Disney movies I watch, I did end up tearing up at a few scenes. Even though this is a sequel, you can still enjoy the movie if you have not seen Finding Nemo.
The film’s playful and plentiful bonus offerings include “Piper,” the theatrical short film starring an irresistible sandpiper hatchling; an all-new mini short featuring interviews with Dory’s pals from the Marine Life Institute; a behind-the-scenes look at the most challenging character Pixar has ever created; never-before-seen deleted scenes, including a digital exclusive featuring the Tank Gang from “Finding Nemo” who make it their mission to get Marlin and Nemo to the Marine Life Institute; and much, much more.
Curious about all the details and weird facts about the work that went into creating FindingDory‘s favorite Octopus, Hank? Well I have some fun facts and a bonus clip about Hank to share with you.
Hank Fun Facts
LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN – When designers were working on Hank, the cantankerous octopus in “Finding Dory,” they created tapered tentacles for the cephalopod. The tentacles were modeled separately from the body, but when they tried to attach them, only seven would fit. Filmmakers later decided that it made sense that Hank would have an affliction, so they worked it into the script.
350 suckers are found on Hank: 50 suckers on each of his seven arms.
11,041 rigging prims were created just for Hank’s simulation (the average character requires around 20).
118 weeks were required of the team of technical directors who were responsible for building and articulating Hank.
22 weeks were spent shading Hank to give him extra texture and color, as well as making it possible for him to camouflage himself. (An average character takes less than eight weeks.)
It doesn’t seem like it was ten years ago that the kids and I saw the first Open Season animated movie. You can not help but fall in love with Boog and Elliot. Even though they were very different, they ended up being the best of friends.
In celebration of Open Season’s 10th Anniversary, Sony Pictures Animation presents an all-new animated movie, OPEN SEASON: SCARED SILLY, on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and DVD March 8.
When a case of mistaken identity leads both humans and animals to believe there is a monstrous werewolf on the prowl in Timberline National Forest, former hunter Shaw seizes on the opportunity to re-open open season. With Shaw on the loose and all the animals at risk, it’s now up to Boog, Elliot, and Mr. Weenie to face their fears, track down the elusive werewolf, and get open season closed permanently.
The kids and I are fans of Open Season and were happy to see Boog and the gang back together again. Open Season: Scary Silly is a very funny movie that will keep you laughing. I love how Elliot and the other creatures try to scare the fear out of Boog. Kayla and I had a chance to see a screening of the movie and really enjoyed it. I will be buying it on March 8th to add to our movie collection, we want to see all the bonus features!

Snow White Printable Activity Sheets
My daughter and I enjoyed watching Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. We are slowly making our way through the Disney movie collection. As always, we were very happy with the bonus features. It was fun to learn new things about the movie. There was a long list of names that did not make the cut for the seven dwarfs. Burpy, Stuffy, Jumpy, Baldy, and Biggo Ego were a few of them.
In addition to being America’s first feature length animation film, Snow White was the first feature film to be made in Technicolor. The colors still ended up being muted because there was concern about whether audiences would be able to sit through bright colors for an extended amount of time.
If you are a fan of Disney, you will definitely enjoy all of the little tidbits of information you will learn from the bonus features!
