I heard a little about this back in February and thought isn’t this wonderful? Herbert and Zelmyra Fisher will be celebrating their 86th wedding anniversary on May 16, 2010. I just love it!! He is 104 and she is 101. They were even on twitter for a little while. You hear so much about marriages falling apart that I just want to applaud one that has lasted this long

Jazz is a sophomore in high school and they were discussing life recently in class. As soon as she came home she wanted to talk to me about it. The teacher talked about family life and how families today are so different from those of the 1950’s. According to this teacher back then, there were nothing but two parent households. Husbands worked and women stayed home to be housewives. It is not like that today. After more discussion it turned out Jazz was the only one is her class that had married parents and a mom who did not work. She wondered if I would be insulted to be considered a housewife. To be honest, I am a not. I have no problems with being a housewife/homemaker. It is a part of who I am. I did think it was interesting though that is this one class our family was considered “not the norm”. I know a lot of two parent households, married and not. I know quite a few homemakers as well who love that they are able to stay at home. Luckily Jazz knows this.
We made the choice for me to become a full time homemaker about 7 years ago. It was a decision I was not sure about for years. I would work, then I missed being home. I would be home and missed working. When Kayla was a few months old, it was better for me mentally to just stay at home. I have been blessed to have a great husband who supported me and I don’t regret making it. Now I am not saying that there not times when I feel like I should be out working to contribute more to our family financially. While I am writing this I asked him, do you want me to work. He said no. He likes me being home all the time. And deep down I think the kids like knowing I am here too, even though they may deny right now, lol.
A homemaker is not all I am though. I have a degree in Medical Office Administration. I love working in customer service. When the time is right I will be out working again. Shoot I am hoping to go back to school when it is possible. I am also a :
- friend
- cousin
- wife
- blogger
- daughter
- sister in law
- auntie
- mom
- daughter in law
So please don’t ask me “Why are you not working when all your kids are all in school?” or “You are home all day and you didn’t cook?” I am not trying to be a 50’s housewife.
I am a homemaker, my kind. The not so perfect kind that. It doesn’t matter as long as it works for us

A simple no will do
Posted By 1stopmom On Sunday, March 7th 2010 In Blogging, Featured Tags: Blogging, companiesI hate rudeness and I am HUGE on manners. From not only each other but companies as well. Horrible customer service in any form is one of biggest pet peeve. Ask my husband. There are some companies to this day I will never deal with again because of poor customer service I experienced years ago. After all it is my money and I will decided who to spend it with. Anyways, yesterday while at the library I was catching up on Facebook posts and came across a post from Barefoot Mommies thanks to J. Leigh Designz :) Barefoot Mommies is a site I am a huge fan of and to hear of a company treating her badly rubbed me the wrong way. It made me angry and I got even more angry that I could not figure out how to tell people about it on Facebook from my iPod. And I just knew a comment would not be enough for me so I decided to blog about it. Barefoot Mommies contacted Colorado Pen about working with them. Instead of a simple no, she was insulted and told to get a real job. The company apparently thinks it is funny that consumers would take the time out of their day to write them and complain. You have to go check out the post.
I want to help spread the word about this because I talk it when a company does something I like. It only makes sense to also talk about a company does something I do not like.
Even though blogging is fun it is also a lot of work. I am not saying that every company should yes to every blogger that approaches them but …….
