UnitedHealthCare Quick Care Quiz and a Giveaway!

The ER is supposed to be for emergencies. Unfortunately people are heading to the Emergency Room for things like colds or sprained ankles. Neither one of these feel good and getting treatment is important. But you don’t have to spend big bucks at the Emergency Room or Urgent Care to get some relief. There are are other, more affordable options.

UnitedHealthcare’s site has a new engagement titled Quick Care Quiz that will help teach people where to go to get the best care options for themselves and their family. This activity offers information on several options for care that all serve different purposes: 24/7 Nurseline, Virtual Visits, Primary Care Doctor, Convenience Care Clinic, Urgent Care or Emergency Room.

UnitedHealthCare helps you to figure out what is the best choice for you when it comes to your medical care. I know I don’t want to spend more money than necessary by going to the ER when I could have did a Virtual Visit or called the NurseLine.

Keep Health In Mind As Weather Get Cooler

Temperatures may be dropping, but just because swimsuit season is over doesn’t mean it’s time to let your fitness regimen fall by the wayside. Keeping active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important year-around, so stay on track as the weather cools with these tips and tricks.

7 Healthy Habits for Fall Fitness

  1. With cooler temps comes the temptation to indulge in comfort foods. Remember that it’s OK to satisfy those cravings but keep portions in control.
  1. From the start of school to the kickoff of new sporting seasons, fall is a time of fresh beginnings. Get your own start on a healthier lifestyle by kicking unhealthy habits such as smoking.
  1. Make the most of these last few months to enjoy seasonal fruits and vegetables. Try new recipes featuring options such as apples, pears, pumpkin and squash to enjoy the natural goodness of fresh produce and add some variety to your typical diet.
  1. Colder weather may bring relief from the heat, but it also brings cold and flu season fast on its heels. Practice good hygiene and wash your hands often to minimize your exposure to germs and illness.
  1. Commit to a workout routine. Whether that means investing in the proper home workout equipment to have at home or securing a gym membership (or a combination of the two), pledge to make time for a workout most, if not all, days of the week.
  1. Set a good example for the youngest members of your family by finding ways to get the whole crew involved. Take a walk or bike ride, or organize a game of backyard ball to get those feel-good endorphins going.
  1. Poor sleep not only drags you down, it can raise your risk for numerous medical problems. Set a bedtime that allows you plenty of rest and stick to it. Also eliminate as many factors as possible that can disrupt your sleep, such as the TV, music and lights.

Electrolytes for Fitness
During a workout, you lose more than just water when you sweat – you also lose electrolytes. If you don’t replace what you lose, you can become dehydrated, decreasing strength, reducing endurance and delaying muscle response. Water alone doesn’t contain electrolytes, so you need a beverage enhanced with electrolytes like Propel Electrolyte Water. With 9 available zero-calorie flavors, it’s the only national water brand with enough electrolytes to replace what you lose in sweat. Learn more at

Building healthy habits, strength and endurance is possible with the T618 Nautilus Performance Series Treadmill, which is perfect for home workouts. With a full suite of training programs, including interval training, weight management and other customized workouts, this powerful machine features an exclusive cushioning system, a gym-quality running path and an easy-folding deck. Bluetooth connectivity allows users to share data with the free Nautilus Trainer app, which automatically syncs with popular fitness apps. Learn more at

Best Foot Forward
Keeping in shape requires keeping your feet in motion, but without proper footwear you can find your energy sagging and muscles straining. This is especially true for runners, whose feet take a real pounding. Look for a shoe that fits well in both the heel and instep, fitting snugly but not restrictive. Remember that feet swell during a run, so be sure you have ample room in width and length. Also be sure the shoe offers enough flexibility to give without causing blisters or rubbing uncomfortably while you’re running.

A Sporting Way to Get More Cardio
Keeping sports equipment handy makes it easy to incorporate more exercise into your daily routine. Assemble a variety of sporting goods to create some variety in your workout, and be sure to include options you can enjoy solo, with a partner or with a group of friends. An assortment of balls for games such as basketball, football, soccer and softball are simple ways to get in an extra cardio workout. Jump ropes, resistance bands and free weights are also handy to have around the house when inspiration to mix up your workout routine is necessary.

Use Stopain For Migraine Relief

I have been experiencing migraines for years. Before I was diagnosed migraines, I always thought I just had pretty bad headaches. Except these headaches would last for hours, sometimes even days. The pain did not go away easily either. I would find myself taking all types of pain relievers with no relief.

People would give me all types of advice on how to stop my headaches. I got a lot of , “it’s just a headache, take some aspirin” or “it can’t be that bad”.

The thing is, it was not an ordinary headache and  it was pretty bad. I am talking about sensitivity to lights and sounds. Even crying hurt. When I get migraines I can barely talk and can’t keep my eyes open. I really hate how migraines prevent me being a part of family activities and outings. Sometimes it even prevents me from driving.  I get migraines quite often and fortunately my family works with me when I need to be in a quiet dark room. I am usually trying different types of medicine to try to get the pain under control.

I was recently sent some Stopain Migraine Topical Pain Relieving Gel to try during one of my migraines. I didn’t have to wait long to try it out. My main trigger is stress along with bright lights. There are times when I can feel a migraine coming on and this time I pulled out Stopain Migraine.

Stopain Migraine Topical Pain Relieving Gel has a easy to use pump. All I had to do was apply the gel to the back of my neck, one pump of gel to each side. I like that the gel is not greasy and it evaporates pretty quickly. There is a video to help if you have any questions on where and how to apply the gel.

stopain migraine

The topical gel does not contain aspirin, caffeine or acetaminophen. Since I was not ingesting anything, I was able to add more gel 30 minutes later. Stopain can be applied up to four times daily. It worked pretty well. I felt the pain of my migraine significantly less. I have had the chance to use Stopain three times and combined with a dark quiet room, I was out of commission for a much shorter time than usual. I was actually getting some relief.

I did not experience any side effects and Stopain is definitely a lot friendly on my budget. Sometimes I end up at urgent care when my migraines are really out of control and those costs really add up!

My Family Will Continue To #ShopTobaccoFree!

This is a sponsored post by Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. As always, opinions are 100% my own.

This is my last post as a part of the #ShopTobaccoFree Campaign. This does not mean I will be changing my shopping habits when it comes to supporting retailers that do not sell tobacco.

The Tobacco-Free Retailer campaign challenges America’s retailers to help save lives and create a tobacco free generation by ending the sale of tobacco products. Since the launch of the Shop Tobacco Free Retailer Network, 754 new stores have signed up to be a part of it. It is wonderful to see this change happening.

Back in November I wrote a post about Tobacco Free Retailers in Wisconsin. Since that post another store in Wisconsin has joined the movement, Trader Joes. I will gladly add them to my list of stores to support and shop at.

I plan on continuing to ask stores to stop selling tobacco. Here are 10 reasons why it is so important to strive for a community that does support tobacco:

  1. Tobacco use kills 480,000 Americans every year – more than 1,300 people every day.
  2. Tobacco use costs our country at least $289 billion a year in health care bills and lost productivity.
  3. Smoking kills more people than alcohol, AIDS, car accidents, illegal drugs, murders and suicides combined.
  4. Smoking harms nearly every organ in the human body and causes about one-third of all deaths from cancer and heart disease, as well as 80 percent of deaths from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (such as emphysema).
  5. 90 percent of adult smokers began at or before age 18.
  6. 5.6 million children alive today will die prematurely from smoking unless current trends are reversed.
  7. Every day, more than 2,800 U.S. kids try their first cigarette – that’s more than one million kids who take their first puff each year.
  8. An estimated 375,000 retail stores sell tobacco products in the U.S. The widespread availability of tobacco products sends a terrible message to kids that tobacco use is normal, acceptable and appealing.
  9. Tobacco companies spend over 90 percent of their annual $8.8 billion marketing budget at the point-of-sale in stores, and this marketing has been shown to increase youth tobacco use. By ending tobacco sales, retailers can help reduce kids’ exposure to harmful tobacco marketing.
  10. Exposure to tobacco products and marketing in stores has been shown to encourage youth use of tobacco products and undermine smokers’ attempts to quit by prompting impulse purchases.

Please remember you can always show your support for #ShopTobaccoFree using social media. Help spread awareness by retweeting my message below.
