reviewproductI see everywhere on social media. Someone is losing important files and documents along with priceless photos because something went wrong with their computer.  I have had it happen to me quite a few times before.

After each loss, I promised myself I will get on a schedule of weekly backups. Usually this meant using the restore feature on my computer or saving a backup of my pictures and files on my external hard drive.

I didn’t keep my promise.

For one reason or another I would forget or did not feel like finding my hard drive, hooking it up and copying the files. I mean I do have more than 3 hard drives and I don’t know where all the cords are.

Then I was asked to review Acronis True Image 2014. I looked over the features and noticed I could back up to the cloud. I could even schedule backups. I just had to give it a try.

I installed the software easily and this screen appeared:

acronis backup

I choose to back up to cloud and that is exactly what it did. I scheduled backups for Thursdays and I don’t notice when it is happening.  This might just work for me!

I even took it one step further and installed the True Image app on my tablets. Since everything is uploaded to the Acronis Cloud I can access my files no matter what device I am on.

I am stilling exploring Acronis True Image 2014. This is more than just backup software:

  • image mounting
  • back up conversion
  • file shredder
  • transfer backups to another computer
  • clone disk

I’m Getting Calls and Texts On My Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 For Free

“Disclosure: I am participating in the Verizon Moms Voices program and have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product.”

It has two months since I have my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 from Verizon. I am having fun trying out different apps to see what works for me.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is clearly not a phone. That does not mean I can’t make and receive phone calls and send text messages. I originally installed Magic Jack for calls and Google Voice for text messages. That is what I have used for my iPad so I gave it a try. This worked fine for a few weeks, but my Husband complained that it was a hassle because it was two seperate numbers. One for texts and one for phones was too much back and forth for him.

So I went to Google Play in search for an app that would let me do both for free. I found Talkatone.

This app works with Google Voice and I am able to communicate with anyone in the US for free! Because Verizon is providing me with six months of unlimited data for free, I have been able to use my tablet like a phone.  This is great because I take it everywhere with me.

I use my bluetooth headset effortlessly to make and receive calls. I am loving this app! My husband and children are able to reach me with no problem. The 4G LTE connection works great and my calls have been clear with no lost calls.

I love that I have a local number because with my Magic Jack app my phone number had a Florida prefix which was too hard to remember. Plus most people would not answer the phone when I called because they thought I was a telemarketer.

Swampy and the Gang Return for Where’s My Water? 2

where's my water 2

[box] Disney Interactive has released the next exciting adventure with Swampy and the gang in the Where’s My Water? 2. In this free-to-play sequel to the massively popular physics-based puzzler, players will explore challenging new levels across three brand new locations including the Sewer, the Soap Factory, and the Beach.[/box]

The kids and I love to play our mobile games. Where’s My Water was one of our favorites to play. We successfully completed all the levels and were waiting for an update that had new levels. I were pleasantly surprised when I found out that instead of an update, we were getting a sequel.

[box] Featuring over 100 levels and challenges to solve, players will experience the same cut and swipe mechanics pioneered in Where’s My Water? while being able to use power-ups such as Vacuum, Dropper and Absorber to “tri-duck” faster. In Where’s My Water? 2 players are also introduced to “challenge modes” for explosive level replays and quick-timed “Duck Rush” levels.[/box]

Key Features:

  • Over 100+ levels and challenges with a brand new look in the Gator universe featuring Swampy, Allie, Cranky, and Mystery Duck.
  • Introducing ‘Challenge Modes’ to replay the levels in explosive new ways
  • Players need to dig as fast as they can to get as many duckies as possible in ‘Duck Rush’ levels
  • Players can now earn and purchase hints to solve puzzles and power-ups to help earn ducks
  • Complete achievements and earn special themed duckies such as gladiator-duckie, astronaut-duckie, hula-duckie, and many more
  • Connect through Facebook to beat friends high scores and gift special items

The game was released on September 12th so we have had a few days to play it.

where's my water 2

It is definitely more challenging. Who likes a game with level they can easily beat? We don’t. The mystery duck moves a lot during the game so you can easily miss you chance to get him. We are really liking the power ups you can earn. The vacuum lets the ducks pull their fluids to them. There is nice because directing the steam or water can get tricky. The dropper starts you game with the ducks almost full. This helps a lot when you are trying to get all the ducks.

Right now we are not huge fans of the Facebook link to friends. If you lose energy, you have to ask friends for extra energy boosts. This is not a huge advantage to me because not a lot of my friends play Facebook.

Another addition I would like to see is multiple profiles. My kids would appreciate not having to share progress in the game with their siblings.

Here is a video of the game so you can see it in action.

You can pick up Where’s My Water? 2 now on the App Store, Windows Phone Store & Windows Store and the Amazon App Store with a launch on Google Play coming soon.

My First Month As A Verizon Moms Voice Ambassador Part 2

“Disclosure: I am participating in the Verizon Moms Voices program and have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product.”

A few days ago I shared a little about my Samung Galaxy Tab 2. I wanted to share a little more.

I am learning my way around the settings and made a few changes. I have changed my background picture and rearranged some of my apps.

samsung galaxy tab 2

My screen was pretty crowded before and I wanted to see a little more of my picture. On the bottom of the screen I have added the apps I use a lot.

  • MapQuest (when I am on the go)
  • Camera ( for capturing memories)
  • Chrome
  • Pinterest ( I am on there a lot!)
  • Instagram
  • Gmail
  • Play Store
  • Mobile HotSpot

verizon mobile hotspot

I can connect up to 10 different devices to my Hotspot. It was easy for me to setup and control what devices can connect. I have it password protected so if we are out in public, others are not just able to jump on. I have used the Hotspot while we have been out during long drives and it worked very well.  The speed did not seem to slow down while my son was watching YouTube, my daughter watching NetFlix, my other daughter watching Vine videos and I was browsing Pinterest.

You do not have to look far if you need help setting up the Galaxy Tab 2.  There is setup wizard to help you figure out how to configure your different email accounts and add your Google account information. I like that there is even video available if you need it. .

For the next few months I will be able to share my experiences with the Samsung Galaxy 2 and the Verizon 4G LTE service. Make sure to follow me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter because I will be sharing tips and pictures.

My First Month As A Verizon Moms Voice Ambassador Part 1

“Disclosure: I am participating in the Verizon Moms Voices program and have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product.”

In previous post I mentioned I would working with Verizon as a Moms Voice Ambassador. At that time I had no idea what type of wireless device I would be receiving. Verizon covered travel and accommodations so I could meet the other bloggers in the program and learn about our new devices.

We had lunch, introduced ourselves to one another and learned about the program. The Verizon bags were handed out to everyone and inside we found this!

samsung galaxy tab 2

What an awesome surprise!! My guess was a Droid Maxx.  In addition to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, Verizon is providing me with six months of 4G LTE  service. We were also given cases to protect our new tablets.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is full of wonderful features:

  • 10 inch screen with 1280 x 800 resolution
  • comes with 8gb memory, expandable up to 32gb
  • has Polaris Office and GPS
  • rear and front facing camera ( with Smile Shot)
  • bluetooth capability
  • stereo speakers on the front of tablet (both sides)
  • one touch screen shot

  • Mobile hotspot
  • Peel Smart Remote Control ( controls my television and uverse)

As you can imagine, I have been pretty busy adding apps and using the Galaxy Tab 2. I take it everywhere I go because I really want to put it to the test.

The first time I really used the Galaxy Tab 2 was on my way home from Chicago after meeting up with Verizon. I get lost pretty much lost anywhere I go. I have such a horrible sense of direction I get lost in my own city! I downloaded Mapquest, typed in my home address and was on my way. The 4G LTE worked great! It was fast and the Tab did not keep losing its connection.  It was nice to get home without having to constantly pull other to figure out where I was.

I am very happy with the battery life of the Galaxy Tab 2.  As I said before, I have been taking the Tab everywhere. I take it when I go shopping, to birthday parties and anywhere else I go. My husband loves to go fishing, so we have been going all over Wisconsin. During these long drives the battery has not went dead.

It takes some pretty nice pictures doesn’t it?

The 4G LTE has not let me down yet. I have been watching movies, using Instagram and Facebook, checking my email, sending pictures and there has not been any problems connecting or with buffering.

I have lots more to tell you so don’t forget to check back!

News-O-Matic- A Newspaper iPad App for Kids

My daughter Kayla watches the news every morning while getting ready for school. I asked her why and she told me she likes to know what is going on. While I admire her thirst for knowledge, the morning news can be a little too much at times.

I personally like to read my news online because there is a little more control. I am happy to say that there is now an app that Kayla can to use to stay up to date on what’s going on, News-O-Matic.

news o matic

[box] “News-O-Matic is an educational news app for children 7 to 10 years old. The groundbreaking app covers current events, including sports, science and much more in an innovative and kid-friendly way. News-O-Matic transforms the news experience for young readers in a safe and interactive environment, encouraging children to become well-informed global citizens. News-O-Matic, contextualizes the news and creates an experience that engages and entertains. News-O-Matic is a daily newspaper application which includes five daily news stories, detailed images, videos, illustrations, maps, timelines, and games.“[/box]

This is exactly what I was looking for. Something made for her that is positive.

Kayla liked everything this app had to offer:

  • Daily Jokes (she loves a good laugh)
  • Stories that involve other kids
  • She is able to share what she thinks about the different articles
  • Draw Pictures
  • Visit the Newsroom and write to the editor
  • Games to Play

Today she was able read about kids in California trying to set a new world record for a hula hoop workout. That is something that is more age appropriate and interesting to her. The idea of her being exposed to local and national news in this way is a comfort to me. And the best part is she is still learning!

Kayla thought it would be a good idea if there were word searches and maybe a comic strip too. I think that is a pretty good idea and suggested she send a message to the editor about it.

Make sure to like Press4Kids on Facebook and follow on Twitter  for the latest updates.

As a special thank you for sharing this I will receive a 3-month subscription to News-O-Matic and goodie bag. My opinion is 100% mine as always.

Mibblio-Interactive Kid’s Books iPad App

It is hard to keep my kids’ hands off my iPad, even though they have their own tablets. My nephews are the same way and can work my iPad with no problems. For this very reason, I like to keep kid friendly apps available to use. An app I recently downloaded is Mibblio.

mibblio[box] “Mibblio was founded in 2012 by cousins Sammy Rubin and David Leiberman. As a composer and music producer, Sammy wanted to create a new type of musical story experience for kids that combined illustrated stories with the music-making elements that he used on a daily basis. David left the world of consulting to design and teach innovative curricula to high school students and joined Sammy on his venture to create a fun, musically enriching and educational new technology. David’s background in education as well as his passion for music made for the perfect partnership and thus Mibblio was born.”[/box]

I encourage reading whenever I can to the little ones in my life and this is why Mibblio caught my attention. A musical interactive story book is great way to make reading fun.

[box] “Parents and children are invited to select a “mibblet”—an illustrated story-song—from the Mibblio library while playing along and creating music to accompany the story. Mibblets are written, illustrated, sung and performed by accomplished artists.“[/box]

The app is really easy to use. I downloaded it for free from iTunes. I searched through the different mibblets for a story I thought my kids would like. I was able to do a little preview of each mibblet before I made my decision.

mibblio ipad app

The different mibblets include: The Wheels On The Bus, Monkey Jamboree, On Top of Spaghetti, Wibblesmacks, I Like ’em Sunny Side Up, Millie and Her Curling, Whirling Hair, The Mashed Potato Monster Gang, Old MacDonald and Superhero Vacation.

I chose Monkey Jamboree as our free mibblet. When you download the app you get a free mibblet, you just touch the picture of the gift book. Right off I noticed the colorful illustrations which go perfect with the story. There is a choice of reading the book or having it sung to you.

While listening to the story, kids can play different instruments and choose what is heard in the background in addition to the singing. I really like that the singer’s voice is not annoying or anything. Monkey Jamboree is pretty catchy and I can see it be played with by my nephews over and over again so that is a big plus.

The singing makes the story fun and memorable. The choice of instruments to play are a nice addition and easy to change.I like that you can listen to the singer sing acapella or with a variety of instruments playing in the background. What a great way to mix it up!

I was given an gift card as a thanks for sharing my thoughts about Mibblio. All opinions are 100% my own as always.
