12 Bones Smokehouse, a restaurant in Asheville, North Carolina, is a “quirky little joint where customers eat off metal plates and write on the walls.” With BBQ so good, hundreds of customers are served on the daily. Even the President and First Lady have eaten there.
12 Bones owners Bryan and Angela King along with Chef Shane Heavner have decided share some of their recipes. However, the 12 Bones Smokehouse: A BBQ Cookbook is more than just recipes. It includes information from what tools you need to successfully prepare your food to a variety of rub and bbq sauce recipes. You can even learn how make those perfect grill marks on your food.
I really enjoyed reading this cookbook. Yes, I said read. It is full of stories and peronal personal anecdotes that make it hard to just flip through. I love all of the mouth watering photos that accompany the easy to follow recipes. I swear I could almost smell the Salt and Pepper Nekkid Baby Back Ribs cooking. One of my favorite recipes so far is the Brown Sugar Bacon that you bake in the oven. This is definitely a step up from regular bacon and I love it!
I like that this cookbook did not just include meat dishes, but sides and desserts too. You can easily plan an entire meal from the recipes inside. A few of the recipes are:
- Smokey Spiced Shrimp and Grits
- Flat Iron Pastrami
- Smoked Gouda Drop Biscuits
- Pickled Peaches
- Peanut Butter-Banana Upside Down Cake
- 12 Bones Corned Beef Brisket
- Honey Cornbread
- Fried Green Tomatoes
- Brown Sugar Baby Back Ribs
Full of delicious southern food you can make from scratch, the 12 Bones Smokehouse: A Mountain BBQ Cookbook has something for everyone. I can’t wait to try my hand at making a few of those sauces. After you read this book you will be itching to pull out the grill.
