Well today Jazz had a doctor’s appointment. She had a really bad rash on her neck, arm and face that needed to be looked at. She went to urgent care about two weeks ago and got a prescription that seems to working. But she still needed to follow up. I figured since she was going she might as well get her immunizations because in Wisconsin the requirements changed. I can’t remember what the old requirements were but these are the new ones.
If your child is going into K-5: Your child will need two doses of varicella (chicken pox vaccine) before the start of school in September 2008.
If your child is going into 6th grade: Your child will need two doses of varicella and 1 dose of TDap (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis) vaccine (unless the child has had a tetanus shot within the last 5 years) before the start of school in September 2008.
If your child is going into 9th grade: Your child will need 1 dose of TDap (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis) vaccine (unless the child has had a tetanus shot within the last 5 years) before the start of school in September 2008.
If your child is going into 12th grade: Your child will need 2 doses of varicella and 1 dose of TDap (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis) vaccine (unless they have had a tetanus shot within the last 5 years) before the start of school in September 2008.
Her doctor brought up her shot record and it turns out one of her Hepatitis B shots was considered not valid. Jazz was supposed to get 3 Hepatitis B shots but her second one did not count. Why you ask? Because the earliest date that she could get the shot was 11/25/1994. Her doctor gave her the second shot on 04/19/1994. This does not make sense to me. I was barely 20 at the time and I was doing what the doctors told me.Shouldn’t they know what they are doing? So how did this happen? I stopped going to that doctor about 8 or 9 years ago but now I think I need to just double check all of the kid’s health records. Just to be on the safe side.
Nonetheless Jazz was not too happy. She thought she was going to get her rash looked at and she ended up getting two shots.
