A few nights ago we were able to see an advanced screening of Nanny McPhee Returns which comes out in theatres today. I was not sure what to expect. My family has not seen the first Nanny McPhee movie. I was hoping we would not be lost and have no idea of what was going on.

In Nanny McPhee Returns, Oscar®-winning actress and screenwriter Emma Thompson returns to the role of the magical nanny who appears when she’s needed the most and wanted the least in the next chapter of the hilarious and heartwarming fable that has enchanted children around the world. 

In the latest installment, Nanny McPhee appears at the door of a harried young mother, Mrs. Isabel Green (Maggie Gyllenhaal), who is trying to run the family farm while her husband is away at war. But once she’s arrived, Nanny McPhee discovers that Mrs. Green’s children are fighting a war of their own against two spoiled city cousins who have just moved in and refuse to leave.
Relying on everything from a flying motorcycle and a statue that comes to life to a tree-climbing piglet and a baby elephant who turns up in the oddest places, Nanny McPhee uses her magic to teach her mischievous charges five new lessons.

The movie turned out to great. We enjoyed ourselves from the moment it started.  The three children were definitely a handful. I was sitting there thinking “I know just how she feels, lol”  They were running and fighting an arguing. Their mom just tried to do her best. She was so sweet and caring.

And once we were introduced to the cousins, I just knew all the madness would be times five!

It was a great movie to watch together as a family. I love way Nanny McPhee works. She is there when you need her and don’t want her. She has to leave when you don’t need her but want her. Nanny McPhee was stern but she cared about the kids. The five rules are a great idea too. Now I need to rent the first one! The kids could not wait to share what they thought.

Friday I was looking through Netflix and realized I have not updated the system in quite a while.  I am normally one of those people who complains about software that auto updates but this is one instance where I don’t feel that way. Anyways, I am so glad I chose to update. Everything is like 10 times better. I can finally search for movies and it is broken up into categories. When Wii added Netflix to their console I fell in love with the way it was set up because it had features that I was looking for. Now I just wonder how long have I been missing out because I forgot to update.

TJ was rewarded for doing all of his homework with a homework first field trip.My kids love participating in this program at school.  He went to the movies to see How to Train Your Your Dragon.

In his words: “It was about a boy called Hiccup and he wanted to be a viking like his dad but he couldn’t because he was too weak. The place he lived had a small pest problems, dragons. His dad would not let him fight because every time he went outside something bad happened. The ending was great.“

TJ thought the movie was pretty funny and all of his friends enjoyed it. He even gave me the ok to buy it when it comes out on DVD, lol. And now he wants some How to Train Your Dinosaur toys. He actually told me how much they are at Walmart.  He has been talking about dragons nonstop since he came home from school, Kayla wants to see it now. Has anyone seen it?

If you have read my blog you know I am a ginormous movie lover. I did a review last year for Roku and fell in love with my Netflix even more. I just opened my email and saw that tomorrow I will get the streaming disc for my Wii. That means the kids will be able to watch Netflix in the living room. And I don’t have to share my Roku

Last weekend our movie pick for Family Movie Night was Cloudy with a Chance of  Meatballs. Have you had a chance to watch this yet? It has was on my Netflix queue list of movies to check out but somehow was moved down the list. I finally decided to scan my queue and move it to the top. We all enjoyed this one. Even my husband stayed up to catch the end. In my typical “mommy” mind set I kept wondering (out loud) with all the food dropping from the sky why didn’t they think to save some for later? At least freeze your favorites, lol. One of our favorite parts is when Flint has his first snowball fight with ice cream. He was running around town throwing snowballs at unprepared children and adults. We could not stop laughing and had to rewind it a few times!  Steve the Monkey is pretty funny too. When I watched the credits later I noticed Bruce Campbell was the voice of the mayor. I am surprised I did not even catch it. I did catch the voices of James Caan and Mr. T though.

Last night we watched Monsters vs Aliens.  We picked another good one. The kids were excited to watch it and could not get their treats together quick enough. This week we had popcorn and italian ice cups. I try to switch it up a little each week. It included some funny references to Area 51 and explained how each of these monsters came to be. You will not be able to stop yourself from laughing throughout the movie. From the general that always wears a parachute, to the genuis cockroach, to the not so smart president. It was also great to see the “Monsters” come together and help one another.

Saturday was movie night for me, hubby and TJ. We let TJ pick so our movie of the night was Transformers 2.  I was pretty excited. My younger brothers played with transformers when they were little. The whole family went to see the first one. I thought it it was ok. So I was ready for part 2.  But I was not ready for the swear words and inappropiate scenes.  I am not talking a bad word here or maybe there. The Transformers were actually cussing, alot. There were dogs humping and quite a few other scences that I just did not feel comfortable watching with my nine year old son.  I don’t know. I think I expected the movie to be a little more “clean”. I mean kids and Transformers do go together.  Now don’t get me wrong, I actually enjoyed the movie. It was funny and had some great action. I just wish it was a little more clean. Then I realized that I never bothered to even check the rating. I seriously was thinking , Transfomers=safe.  I just wanted to share what I thought about  our movie experience.  I think Transformers 2 is a good movie but just not appropiate for kids.

I am a huge movie lover and have a even bigger collection. Most people are very surprised to find out my collection consists of lots of action, horror, comedy and a few (maybe 3) romantic movies. The reason I bring this up is because I was watching tv and saw a commericial for “Not Easily Broken”. It is a movie starring Morris Chestnut, Taraji P. Henson, Kevin Hart and Wood Harris. They are some of my favorite actors so of course I want to see it but I have a feeling it will make me cry. For some odd reason I hate it when movies make me cry. It just gets me started and then everything makes me cry. Commercials, songs, poems just about anything. It really just makes no sense. Even though I love movies there are some I have never watched because they might make me cry. Let’s see, I have never seen Green Mile, Forrest Gump, John Q, Rain Man and Losing Isiah . Then there are the movies I have seen that made me cry and I never watched again: Castaway, Bicentennial Man and Armageddon. There are a few movies that I do watch even though I end up in tears: Color Purple, Brokedown Palace, and The Best Man. Of course I can’t forget Toy Story 2. Yes, I said Toy Story 2. There is this scene where Jessie, the girl doll, has been under the bed collecting dust because the little girl has outgrown her. One day she takes Jessie from under the bed and Jessie is so happy because she is finally gonna get played with. Well, it turns out the girl only took Jessie from under the bed to give her away. That just broke my heart. Stop laughing! I’m curious, what movie makes you cry?

Well Friday my husband and I had the pleasure of going to the movies and we chose to see Wanted. If you have not seen this movie please do not read any further since this post will contain a spoiler.

I could not wait to see this movie because I love action movies and Morgan Freeman playing a bad guy was pretty cool. Plus there is just something about Angelina Jolie and the way she acts and I love to watch her. I have been following her career way back when she was in “Hackers”. Angelina played her character pefectly. I mean she is dangerous with a gun but would you expect anything else? I was silently praying this movie was not like most where all the best parts are shown during the trailers. My prayers were answered! The action scenes were great! It was literally stuff I have not seen before and that is pretty rare. The story line is good, it is basically about a fraternity of assassins that has been around for over a thousand years. They get these messages in fabric of people who need to be taken out no questions asked. The leader of this fraterenity is Morgan Freeman and the only one who can read the messages.

The movie starts off with this super cool looking guy trying to figure out who has made a particular bullet so he goes to see this expert. While the expert is looking at the bullet and talking about how unique it is, she is taken out by a bullet to the head. The guy then runs down hall towards the elevator and I am thinking, “wow, he sure is wimpy”. Once the elevator doors open he steps in, positions his body like he is about to race and takes off! His foot actually dents the elevator when he pushes off. He runs at hyper speed back down to the office of the bullet expert and jumps through the window with his guns blazing. He is shooting all of these sniper guys that are on a rooftop. After killing everyone on the roof, his cell phone rings. It is from a guy named Cross and it turns out the sniper guys were all just a decoy. Cross shoots this guy from across town with a bullet that changes at least 3 to 4 times before it hits its’ mark. This is the same bullet type of bullet the expert was just looking at.

The movie then cuts to Wesley, talking about how horrible his life is. You know crappy job, girlfriend cheating with “best” friend, living in a shoddy apartment and always broke. He can not seem to to understand his purpose and suffers from constant panic attacks. I was feeling kind of sorry for him. He seems a little dorky, not really confident and people walk all over him.

This movie had me saying ,WOW, all the way to the very end. I watch tons of movies and can usually see where a movie is going. This was not even possible with Wanted. Almost everything I thought was not true. It is one of those movies where you want to see it again because you know you missed something.

This movie was worth the price of admission and my husband agree. We were not disappointed at all. If you get a chance to see it tell me what you think. What was one of your favorite parts?

Since I have started on my debt journey I have become a little obsessed. You know, how can I save money,  how can I make some money, how to stretch my money, what did I do with all my money , how should I spend my money and how did I waste my money? But then I started thinking, I have made my share of bad money decisions (maybe a little more than my share) but did I ever make any good ones? Well guess what? I have and some of them were really good if I do say so myself  I think while holding ourselves accountable for purchases that we make,good and bad, we need to pat ourselves on the back for those good choices too. If you think hard enough I am sure you can think of a purchase you have made that saves money for you and your your family. I think mine would be a projector and screen. About 5 or 6 years ago at tax time, I found a Toshiba projector on clearance for $599 and I got a projector screen which is about 100×100 in size. The screen was $99 with free shipping and handling. We used it mainly for movie night and playing video games. It has become one of the best purchases we have ever made and this is why. Our 32″ just broke so there is no picture just sound. My family loves to watch movies and play video games so this was a problem.  About 8 years ago that tv cost us only $369, you can’t get anything for $350!!! So what did we do? We moved the furniture around , hooked up the projector to our satellite and pulled the screen down. And it is a better picture than our tv had!! We had our very own flat screen right under our noses. The projector has been a big part of family movie nights or game nights. We own hundreds of dvds so we have no need to even go out to the theatre. We pop our own popcorn, invite over some relatives and have a great time. Snd it really makes bowling on the Wii a lot more fun.This is definitely a purchase I do not regret. So what was one of your best purchases?
